Please note that this will not apply to Tuesday competitions.
The paper competition sheets in the starters hut will be replaced by electronic booking after the 6th May 2018. Therefore there will be six competitions before the new system becomes active in order for members to become familiar with how to book a time electronically and hopefully sort out any problems.
Firstly you will need to register on HowDidiDo unless you are already registered.
- Once you are registered you will be able to log in either on the website or the mobile app (Android / iOS)
- When logged in click on ‘booking‘ which will open the list of forthcoming comps
- Open the competition you are interested in
- Choose a tee time (you will also be able to sign up other members to tee off at the tee time you have chosen only)
Due to so many people in the club having access to online services at home or on the go the Club will not be providing a device to enable booking from the clubhouse since it would be an unnecessary cost. We believe that since HowDidiDo can be accessed from a PC, tablet or mobile phone that there is far more convenience to being able to do this from the comfort and convenience of your own devices. Any member who doesn’t have access to these devices can ask another member to sign them up to play with them.
The CONGU handicap limit of 28(36) has been replaced with a limit of 54 for both men and women. Therefore extra categories are introduced:
Category 5 is 28.5 to 36.4
Category 6 is 36.5 to 54
I am delighted to be President of the Hope Golf Club for 2014. I see the Golf Club and the Earles Social Club as a vital part of the contribution Hope Cement makes to the community in this area. This year Hope Cement celebrates its 85th birthday and we are proud to continue to develop the Golf and Social Clubs.
In my role as Industrial Director and Manager for the cement works, my involvement with this thriving Golf Club continues the tradition started by Sir George Earle back in the 1930s. Following in his footsteps, Hope Cement continues to promote and maintain opportunities for employees, families and friends to have a good social life – essential to everyone’s well-being.
This community spirit spread to other Hope Cement colleagues across the UK last summer when we hosted our first company social event (since our launch in January 2013) here at the Golf Club. The Golf event was a big success and we plan to repeat it each year, this year’s competition is booked for the end of June. Whilst my golf skills are not up to much, I will be taking part and enjoying seeing colleagues from other areas making the most of our course. As the former Club President Bernard Eyre, commented, they, like other visitors will be impressed and surprised to see a busy Golf Club in operation right next to Britain’s largest cement manufacturing operation!
Currently we have 167 members but we are promoting the Club and hoping to increase this number this year. We are launching a ladies’ section and already have people interested; and we have 20 junior members (under 16 or in full-time education).
This year we have lots of improvements in the pipeline including redesigning and relaying the 5th tee and upgrades to the 1st hole and 2nd tee, 7th and 16th tees.
Good luck to all our members for a successful year of Golf and I look forward to welcoming new members of all ages to our Club. The company will continue to play an active part in the maintenance and development of the Hope Golf Club and I encourage everyone in the community to make the most of this fantastic resource right on your doorstep.
We are trying to increase the size of our ladies section this year. In an attempt to encourage more ladies to join our club we teamed up with Derbyshire Golf and Women and Girls into Golf initiative. A series of six one-hour taster sessions were funded by Derbyshire Golf and Robbie Bennett worked with a group of ladies, introducing them to the basics of the game. We hope to be able to run more taster sessions later in the year.
Thank you Robbie for your efforts and thank you ladies for making it worthwhile.
We are hoping to be able to improve the facilities for lady members too before the end of the season with access to toilets and changing facilities.
Some of our lady members have been able to get handicaps this year, thank you Harold for doing this. We hope to get the ladies red tees measured this year too, so handicaps will hopefully become easier.
Summer meeting and fun day was a great success with plenty in attendance and plenty of sunshine. The Committee would like to thank everybody who bought raffle tickets and burgers/hot dogs, we raised a total of £274.00, half of which was put into the Captain’s Charity, the rest going to the golf club. Thank you too to all the Committee who donated the prizes for the raffle.
A big thank you to Robbie Bennett for giving up his time to give the young budding golfers some coaching; a thank you also to Matt Green of Derbyshire Golf for the provision of the inflatable golf nets.
